A Letter From the President

Welcome to Curtain Call! Our hope is to publish this newsletter following each monthly Board of Directors meeting. The goal is to keep you informed of Board decisions, as well as update you on planning that is relevant to our theatre. A special thanks to Board Secretary Stephanie Dillard, who is spearheading this effort. The format may evolve from month to month as our publication of Curtain Call unfolds, but a brief note from me will be included in each issue.

I find this year’s Board to be a timely reflection on Pull-Tight. There are past board members and past presidents serving this year, along with those who are relatively new to the Pull-Tight community, serving on its Board for the very first time.

After just one meeting, I can already see that your Board is dedicated to serving in the very best interests of our theatre family, and I can also predict they will not shy away from making a tough decision if the circumstances compel it.

Pull-Tight is a dynamic, creative force. Has been for 57 years now. And yes, making tough decisions, even unpopular ones, will naturally come with the territory if we are determined to stay relevant.

I can assure you that every decision this Board makes will be based on respectful debate that has the integrity and reputation of Pull-Tight at heart. And we look forward to raising the curtain on all of that each month for you.

Sincerely,
Cabot Pyle
President, Pull-Tight Board of Directors

Theatre News and Updates: Fresh Seats, Cool Air, and Warm Thanks

Exciting things are happening at Pull-Tight! This summer, we installed brand-new theatre seats, and we’re already enjoying the upgrade. These comfortable cloth-covered chairs were made possible thanks to the hard work of a dedicated committee: Dan Linney, Teri Daly, Chris Dillard, Tim Massey, and Lindsey Scruggs, plus the many volunteers who helped remove the old chairs and bring in the new ones. We can’t thank you enough!

New chairs installed at Pull-Tight Theater

Because these new seats are upholstered in cloth rather than vinyl, they’ll be reserved for audience use only. After each show is struck, the seats will be carefully stacked along the back row and covered with a tarp to protect them from dust during set construction. Plastic folding chairs have been purchased for use during rehearsals by our cast and crew.

While waiting for the new seats to arrive, Tim Massey rolled up his sleeves and gave the theatre walls and risers a fresh coat of paint. Thank you, Tim, for helping Pull-Tight shine even brighter!

In addition to aesthetic improvements, our theatre is now more comfortable, too. New HVAC units have been installed in the catwalk and lobby, already making a noticeable difference. And there’s more good news! Once we complete the transition to LED show lighting, we’ll enjoy an even cooler performance space during those hot summer nights. (And yes, the Grease reference here is absolutely intentional.)

Please note: construction continues behind the theatre, and our parking lot is currently home to the supervisor’s trailer. Plan to arrive early for shows and check out the three levels of free parking in the city garage next door. There’s also free parking available on 4th Avenue South across from Puckett’s and Meridee’s, or you may find street parking nearby depending on other downtown events.

We’d also like to share a change in our Finance Committee structure. While Iain Macpherson continues to serve Pull-Tight as Treasurer, Dustin Greenleaf is chairing a newly formed Finance Committee. Joining Dustin on this important committee are Becky Leopard, Johnny Peppers, Melissa Talyor and Wade Woodruff. Thank you, Iain, for your leadership and dedication to ensuring Pull-Tight’s long-term financial sustainability. Your many years of hard work have made it possible for us to make this transition with confidence.

We are thrilled to report that we have sold out of season tickets this year! While we now have 94 seats in the theatre, 92 are available for purchase, with two reserved for our wonderful door workers.

If you missed our annual banquet in July, you can still celebrate with us! See the list of award winners and view photos from the event.

And finally, stay tuned for the announcement of the date of our Fall Artist Membership Meeting. We look forward to seeing you there!

Volunteer Spotlight! Bre Hall, Chair of the Community Outreach Committee

Bre Hall

Our inaugural Volunteer Spotlight section is focused on Bre Hall! Her selfless dedication to chairing the Community Outreach Committee is truly inspiring!

What first inspired you to get involved with Pull-Tight, and how long have you been with us?

I have been with Pull-Tight since 2019! I was in a place in my life where I was searching for my
place, my people, my second home. I saw open auditions for a few shows and thought I’d give it
a shot.

Can you share a favorite memory or moment from your time here?

Top of this list has to be performing Big Fish for Reba … hands down. She shook my hand and told me that she loved my singing voice. IS THIS REAL LIFE?!

What roles or tasks do you enjoy most when volunteering, and why?

I love directing and choreographing, but performing will always be my first love. Stepping on stage lets me leave myself behind for a bit—and no two moments are ever the same.

What has volunteering at Pull-Tight Theatre taught you or brought into your life?

Volunteering at Pull-Tight reminds me how deeply art matters. Everyone connects with it differently—some come for laughter, some for escape, some to feel something real. Whether we’re sharing stories at an event or festival, meeting someone while working at the door, or bringing a show to life onstage, it all makes a difference. Every moment is a chance to move someone.

If you could play any role on stage or in a production crew (regardless of age or type), what would it be—and why?

Honestly, I wish I could sew! I love costuming and dressing. I love to see a vision of a character come to life! However, my ultimate dream role would be Nessa Rose in Wicked!

We are so grateful to Bre Hall for her generous service and the spirit she brings to Pull-Tight Theatre. If you’re inspired by Bre’s example, consider stepping into a volunteer role—there’s a place for everyone here!
