It’s Christmas in a small settlement in French Guiana a century ago. A family struggles to run a general store, but the outlook is bleak. Relatives are on their way to oust the family and ruin the daughter’s engagement. But three convicts overhear from their spot repairing the roof for their work-release program. They get to work, solving the family’s problems and completely charming the audience.

Audition Requirements
Headshots and resumes are helpful, but not required. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. You may download our Audition Form and fill it out ahead of time if preferred.

Character Breakdown
All roles are available. Pull-Tight is committed to diverse and inclusive casting.
There are roles for 7 men and 3 women, all ages 21 and up. The play takes place in French Guiana 1900. No French accents will be used.
The three convicts are the angels of the play. They are warmhearted and passionate believers in justice. Their words are thoughtful and deliberate. They are:
Joseph, a swindler, a super salesman and a quick thinker.
Jules, a murderer, who only wants a quiet home, a comfortable chair and a faithful wife.
Alfred, a murderer and the youngest of the three. He loves the ladies, but is perhaps a bit too hotheaded.
The family
Felix is the manager of the general store. He is kind, generous, scatterbrained, and totally lovable.
Emilie is Felix‘s wife and a realist in the family of dreamers.
Marie Louise is their daughter and a dreamer. Marie can be overly dramatic, as all idealistic girls of her age can be at times.
The villains
Henri is the evil-minded owner of the general store. He is a miser and a cheat, and has no redeeming qualities.
Paul is Henri’s cold-blooded, nephew who is following closely in his uncle’s footsteps. Marie Louise is in love with him.
The townspeople
Mme. Parole is a nosy busybody who is needed at just the right moment.
The Lieutenant is a young single Navy doctor, just perfect for Marie Louise.
